Annual Camp 2012

Dear Parent/Guardian

Plans for Annual Camp 2012 have been finalised. We will be going to Lough Keel Scout Centre only minutes from Lough Key in Roscommon. The site is about 12km from Carrick-on-Shannon and has plenty of activities on site and in the surrounding areas. The boys will be busy daily cooking for themselves in their patrols, taking part in fun and challenging activities and learning many skills in the process.

We will be departing for camp on Saturday 28th July and we will be home on Saturday 4th August.

The cost of the camp is €225. This includes the deposit of €50 that has already been paid, so most scouts at this stage owe €175. The money covers the camping fees, transport, food, on site and off site activities, day trips, necker and any unforeseen expenses.  Some scouts took part in bag-packing at Christmas and some raised funds in the Tús Maith group hike in May, the money they earned at these fundraisers will be taken off their balance. Unfortunately I do not have these figures at the moment but I will have later in the week. I will let parents know what is owed as soon as i get the figures.

Scouts will get a chance to take part in many exciting activities, from climbing high above the trees in Lough Key forest park while attached to high ropes and a harness, to challenging their minds in a series of challenges in Boda Borg, a crystal maze like themed centre with many different puzzles that groups of scouts will have to work through as a team. They will also be swimming, hiking and even visiting the world’s smallest chapel. All info on these activities will be on the website in the coming weeks.

We would ask that all balances be paid as soon as possible, with a final closing date of Tuesday 24th July. We will have a final information note going out just before the camp with all contact info, rules etc but if you have any questions feel free to call me or any of the other leaders any evening.
