Jamboree 2008

Jamboree 2008 Opening Ceremony

Jamboree 2008 was the first Jamboree run by Scouting Ireland.
It took place under Camp Chief Christy McCann in Punchestown Racecourse from 2nd - 8th August.
1st Louth scouts attended for the whole camp on Newgrange subcamp despite the downpours of rain that flooded some campsites. The decision to keep the camp going was covered throughout the Irish Media.
Despite the rain the scouts still had a good camp despite the fact that some of the prgramme was badly run. This led to the camp being called the Shamboree by some scout leaders. Many troops headed home early due to the rain but 1st Louth took the easy decision to stay on and to help out outhers that had been effected by the rain.
On the camp scouts got to do water activities, take part in concerts, practice MPSE, squeeze 21 scouts into a ford fiesta, play different games with other scouts, go on a helicopter and go to outdoor discos at night.
