Tipping's Overnight Camp

On Tuesday 3rd April, 16 scouts and their leaders from 1st Louth Scouts, St. Patrick's Scout Group, Castletown Road camped on Tipping's Wood, a forest on the large grounds of Bellurgan Park. On what was a cold night the adventurous scouts camped out in lightweight tents. They had a big camp fire where they all cooked a "Cowboy Dinner", a meal consisting of 4 rashers, 4 sausages and beans constructed in a box like shape and wrapped in tinfoil and cooked on hot ambers. They experienced every type of weather possible from strong winds, freezing temperatures, rain, sleet and even snow only for them to awake to a glorious spring morning on Wednesday. That morning after a breakfast of freshly made pancakes made on the fire, the scout troop took part in a very short stroll up to the top of Tipping's Hill where the scouts got some great photos of the snow covered mountains. All the scouts had a great time and were delighted that the camp wasn't cancelled because of the weather. Oh, and Gareth was crazy enough not to sleep in a tent.
